
Al Hajr, "Madan Saleh" is located 22 kilometers from the town of Al Ola and it is strategically located on the road linking the south of Arabian Peninsula (the Mesopotamia), Iraq with Syria and Egypt. From Al Hajar the road of trading divides out into two branches, one heading to Sila', "Petra", which is the political capital of Nabateans, crossing through Tabouk, and the second one leads to Mesopotamia through Tem'a. The location of Madain Saleh had made it into an important economic city to the Nabateans as well as a destination for trading caravans. The city of Al Hajr or Madain Saleh is an archeological site in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, located in the of Al Ola sector within the Al Madinah region. It occupies a strategic position linking Mesopotamia with Syria and Egypt. It was the land of Thamoods in Wadi Al Qurah "Valley of Villages", between Al Madinah and Tabouk. They say that, Al Hajar was known as Madain Saleh or Saleh Quarh.
